shakhenabat, The white from the paper is the most important element in transparent watercolor painting. One always is thinking about how to let the white shine through the paints and use as high lights for the over all painting.

Now is understood what you told me about the big tree on my painting, to use darker shade than the ground and keep the paper white for the light effect..loved the detailed work here!!!

Alfred this is such a wonderfully fulfilling painting! Your color choice and control is fantastic & your composition demonstrates remarkable depth. This painting is to me, like a happy maze which the eye can drink in, be captured by & sustained. Page after page, your art is crafted with stunning care and mastery! It has been such a pleasure to wander through your work Alfred! My day is so much richer for having stopped by here. Thank you!

Thanks so much Vivian. There is a story behind this painting: I was very taken with the Chinese scenery after my trip to Shanghai and I started to work on this series. However, when I showed the few new paintings I had done the gallery owner told me he won’t able to sell them as he didn’t have any buyers for that type of work. I did not listen to him just followed my heart and produced more. Later, after I left this gallery I was able to sell it on my own.
