Thank you Paula, lately I been busy with my father's affair so I could only work on smaller things. I should back to painting larger work soon.

Maria, my father worked in a paint factory over twenty year as a labourer back in Hong Kong and in Canada he worked as dishwasher in Chinese restaurants untill he was too ill to work any more..He thinks of I being an artist was just waste of time and not holding down a real job. He would tell people I don't work, spent all my time shopping! he just has a close mind but I used to all that. he never seen any of my exhibitions in galleries.

What did your father want you to do? What was his job? Hope you don't mind me asking.

Have you ever tried to do research? Wouldn't it be great to find some of his artwork. Maybe you would enjoy the Book of Silence and pass some of its info onto your mum. Although, maybe the Chinese know more about what silence is!

Maria, both my parents never been to schools either of them speak any English. In fact, my father did not want me to be an artist. I had a very differicult time with him when I am growing up..My artistic gene might came from my grandfather he was a well respected artist and scholar, he passed away before I was born back in China. They lost everything during the war so I have no idea what kind of artist he was.

Aw! Alfred, sorry to hear that. Did he enjoy your art? did he draw himself? Where do you think you got your skills, handed down or just your own? I have a drawing from when i was 7, it's funny will post soon. I am reading an amazing book called A book of silence by sarah maitland. I have mentioned it on threads but will do again, as everyone should read it. One fascinating fact. birds bones are hollow unlike humans except when a woman's bones thin during menopause, and become exactly like a birds, its a woman's time to learn to fly! Your mum may like to read it, and it has connotations for the silence in alzheimers. Have a peaceful day.

Maria, I was seventeen in 1975 and was in second year at art school then. Yesterday was an important day for me as well. I had to move my 88 years old father into a Chinese nursing home. My father hasn’t been well for years and I moved back home to help mother to care for him. He is diabetic with serious kidney problem but even worst Alzheimer. The last few months, his health declines even further and not able to walk any more. He needs more care than we can give him. It was a day of mixed feeling for me, I was happy he is being care by the professional but sad for my mother losing her mate. Last night was the first night I had a good sleep in many years.

Beautiful! Composition is great, i didn't notice the eggs at first as my eyes washed over the bird and its detailed head and feathers. Love the muted colours too. What a fine artist at an early age. I was 16/17 in 75 how old were you? I am only asking this to try and recall what my work was like then, not that i did much at all. Well done Alfred, its a real pleasure to see nature through your eyes. Especially today, as my dog died yesterday so my emotions are pretty raw and I am looking at nature at bit differently than I did yesterday i suppose.:)
